New year, same great group and some fresh new faces! The Q1 Chicago User Group met on January 21st at the Morningstar office. It was an informative get-together for attendees packed with an array of updates about the Oracle Eloqua platform and plan out what the year ahead looks like for local user group events. If you weren’t able to attend the event, no worries, we’ve got a recap and a copy of the presentation. Check it out!

The marketing event of the year is just around the corner, and I’m pumped. I can’t wait to dig into all the great sessions, meet a bunch of new people, celebrate marketing excellence, and party it up Vegas style.
I’ve been to Modern Markting Experience (used to be called Eloqua Experience) several times, so I know what to expect. But, if this is your first time attending, you might be unsure of what you will need. For those who will be packing over the weekend like me, here is what you need to bring:
“Vegas Baby! Vegas!” That’s the classic line from the cult hit Swingers, the movie that introduced the world to Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau.
In the movie, Vaughn and Favreau’s characters take a road trip to Las Vegas to hit up some casinos, win some money, and generally have a good time. It was nearly 20 years ago that Swingers came out, but the thrill of Vegas is alive and well in 2015.
I will be heading to Vegas at the end of March for the Modern Marketing Experience and will be joined by thousands of the best marketers in the world for an event that surpasses Vaughn and Favreau’s experience.

I love this time of year. Not only do I get to celebrate the holidays with family and friends, it’s also the time when everyone is making Top 10 lists of things that happened throughout the year and giving their prognostications about what they think the future entails. I love reading the summaries of the things I may have missed and checking out the predictions of forward-thinking people.
Reading through all the great year-end commentary got me thinking, “There should be some sort of award handed out to the people who predict trends that actually come to fruition.” After awhile, I think we would see several people touting multi-year wins and others remaining noticeably devoid of recognition. Let’s be honest. Anyone can spout off some predictions. It takes true forward thinking to be able to see into the future and actually get it right.
Perhaps an award already exists for these list-building visionaries, but what I do know is that, when it comes to marketing, there are awards for people who are visionaries in their field: The Markie Awards.
